Exfoliation removes dead skin cells, leaving your skin soft and smooth. Many women exfoliate their faces but forget about their other body parts. Even though it’s not quite bikini season yet you can have soft, clean skin by exfoliating your skin from head to toe with these easy to do at home exfoliation tips. Remember, exfoliation is a very important step before applying sunless tanning products.
My favorite way to exfoliate feet, knees and elbows is to mix some sugar into coconut oil and massage for a couple minutes. Coconut oil is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal so it can be especially beneficial for the feet. The reason that I use sugar instead of salt is because salt will dehydrate your skin whereas sugar has a hydrating effect and that is what we are trying to achieve.
If you have ever had a facial at a spa you know that chemical peels can be quite expensive. A gentle at home peel can be achieved with some lemon juice, from a bottle or fresh squeezed. Simply apply with a cotton ball and leave on your skin for a couple of minutes. When you are ready to remove the lemon juice massage your face with a warm, wet washcloth and splash some cool water on and pat dry. You may then apply an spf moisturizer to protect your skin from sun damage.
If you prefer a facial scrub, you can add some sugar to a spoonful of plain yogurt and massage onto your face for a minute. The combination of the lactic acid from the yogurt and the sugar will both exfoliate and moisturize your skin helping it to feel soft and smooth. Rinse with cool water and pat dry. Follow with your favorite moisturizer and you are all set.
I recommend getting a facial every 4-6 weeks as part of your skincare regimen. Facial massage as well as extractions (removing blackheads and pustules) greatly improves the tone and texture of your skin.
